The only clinic in Florida that provides free hepatitis C diagnoses and
treatment will stay open thanks a $40,000 grant from a foundation associated with a health insurance company.
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, which is affiliated with Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Florida, has awarded the money to the Good Samaritan Clinic in New Port Richey to help offset hepatitis C laboratory fees and the salaries of two clinic employees.
The clinic uses a minimal staff and an extensive network of physicians and nurses to provide free health care to low-income, uninsured residents of Pasco County. The grant is expected to help the clinic grow with the expanding need of the community.
